How it works

Three steps from a question to a written estimate.

1

Tell us about the yard

Where the area is, roughly how big, what's there now and what you want it for. Pets, a pool, a slope or HOA rules all change the plan, so mention them. Having photos of the area and the side gate ready makes the first conversation quicker.

2

We set up your estimate

We pass your request to a turf installer who can help, using the contact method you chose.

3

You get a written estimate

It should list removal, base, turf, infill and edging. Compare it with our installation checklist, then decide. Nothing goes ahead unless you agree.

Before you price anything

Three things Peoria homeowners should know about turf

Turf can be a good choice for part of a desert yard. These three facts decide which part.

Shade decides where it goes

Turf in full afternoon sun gets far hotter than grass, so the shaded parts of a Peoria yard are usually where it earns its place; our guide to turf in summer heat has the measured temperatures.

Peoria pays for plants, not turf

If you have a lawn now, the city's Grass to Xeriscape Rebate won't cover turf, so compare turf vs xeriscape vs grass before deciding what replaces it.

Most of the job is underneath

Removal, grading and a compacted rock base take more time than rolling out the turf. They also decide whether the surface drains in a monsoon storm and stays smooth for years. The drainage and base guide explains what to ask.

Planning

Where turf works best in a Peoria yard

The City of Peoria's own advice is that small, shaded areas away from underground lines, tree roots and heat-sensitive plants suit turf best. In practice that points to a few spots: the shaded side of the house, the area under a patio cover, a dog run with a shade sail, and a putting green you'll use early and late in summer.

Big, open, west-facing yards are a different story. Turf there spends hours in full sun, and desert plants or shade trees may serve you better. A mix often works well: turf where people and pets use the ground, and rock and desert plants everywhere else.

Think about what sits underneath, too. Old sprinkler lines, valves and tree roots are far easier to deal with while the ground is open, so plan to cap the irrigation and give trees their own water before the base goes down. If the space is for dogs, the pet turf page covers drainage and odor.

Neighborhoods

Where we set up turf estimates

We cover the City of Peoria. Our neighborhood pages focus on North Peoria, where master-planned communities and HOA review shape most turf plans.

The published limits show how much the rules change from one community to the next. In The Village at Vistancia, turf of any kind is held to 20% of the front yard's landscapeable area. On a Blackstone custom lot, artificial turf stays out of the front yard altogether. In Mystic at Lake Pleasant Heights, it can cover up to 30% of the whole lot. Each neighborhood page names the document and its date, so you can check what applies to your street.

North Peoria

Desert lots, strong afternoon sun and HOA design review.

Vistancia

A 7,100-acre master plan with yards that vary by builder and village.

Blackstone

Homes around the private Blackstone Country Club, opened in 2005.

Mystic

New homes near Lake Pleasant Parkway, often starting from builder dirt.

Timing

When to plan turf in Peoria

The season changes how the job goes and how soon you'll use the yard.

Fall and winter

Cooler weather is easier on crews, adhesives and you. Planning now also leaves time for HOA review, so the yard is ready before summer.

Spring

A good time to plan before the heat. Get your HOA approval moving early, and settle shade plans before the first hot weeks.

Summer and monsoon

Installs still happen, often starting at first light. Storms bring heavy rain and dust, which is the real test of the drainage under new turf.

Cost

What turf costs

A mature Bermuda lawn on a slope behind a narrow gate is a different job from a flat new-build yard of graded dirt, even at the same size. Our cost estimator gives a sourced range for your size and explains why the firm number comes after someone sees the yard.

Why ask us

Honest answers before anyone quotes

Our guides are written to help you decide, with sources you can check.

Community rules, quoted

Our neighborhood pages quote the published turf rules for Vistancia, Blackstone and Mystic, with the date of each document.

Sources, not slogans

Heat, water and rebate facts come from the City of Peoria and AMWUA, and we link to them so you can check.

Turf only where it fits

When desert plants or shade would serve a spot better, our guides say so, including in the full guide library.

Questions

Common questions about turf in Peoria

How much does it cost to install artificial turf in Arizona?

HomeGuide's national cost guide lists $10 to $25 per square foot installed, so a 500 square foot backyard works out to roughly $5,000 to $12,500.

Can I install artificial turf myself?

Small areas are possible for a handy homeowner, but the groundwork calls for equipment most homeowners don't own, and hauling old grass or rock out of a backyard is heavy work. Seams and edges are where DIY jobs tend to show, so weigh that against the cost of a pro install.
